RADU ȘERBAN PERSONAL ART COLLECTION
Radu Șerban Personal Art Collection at the Jibou Multifunctional Centre
Artist Radu Șerban was born in Jibou and attended General School No. 1 in the town until 1975, when he continued his studies at the Art High School in Cluj-Napoca.
The Radu Șerban Personal Art Collection is a project initiated by the Continuum Cultural Association and supported by the Jibou Town Hall and Local Council, which, in 2018, awarded Radu Șerban the title of Honorary Citizen of Jibou.
Thanks to a favorable context – the establishment of the Jibou Multifunctional Centre – the artist now offers the local community, Jibou residents, and visitors to the Botanical Garden or the town itself a selection from his creative activity spanning more than 45 years: a significant number of paintings chosen from various series created over time, including works from the period when he was a student at General School No. 1 in Jibou and participated in the Painting Circle coordinated by teacher Simion David.
Within this collection, in the intimate exhibition space of the „Galeria mică” (”Small Gallery”), the artist presents the exhibition „ReAmintiri” (”ReMemories”) – a suite of works, each with a distinct story, related to the period when he lived in Jibou or inspired by family memories and vacations spent with his grandparents in Năpradea.
The exhibition also includes other selected works from Radu Șerban’s artistic journey – pieces created during his studies at the Art High School in Cluj-Napoca, at the National University of Arts in Bucharest, during his stay and creative activity in Canada, as well as recent works that illustrate the continuity of an artistic evolution marked by exploration, memory, and inner dialogue.
Alongside his artistic activity, Radu Șerban is a Professor at the University of Art and Design in Cluj-Napoca, where he mentors generations of young artists and actively contributes to contemporary artistic and academic life. He is also the initiator and coordinator of the International Visual Arts Symposium “Art in the Garden,” held annually at the “Vasile Fati” Botanical Garden in Jibou, a landmark project within the Romanian cultural landscape.
Through this collection, Radu Șerban proposes a symbolic return “home” – a gesture of gratitude toward his hometown and an invitation to rediscover the deep connections between art, place, and memory.
